This fresh strawberry salsa is a vibrant, fragrant, and surprisingly savory alternative to traditional tomato salsa. Sweet, ripe strawberries bring brightness and juiciness, while herbs, onion, and lime create the familiar balance of a classic salsa. Whether you avoid tomatoes or other nightshade vegetables, or simply want a fresh twist for tacos, grilled meats, or fish, this easy recipe comes together in just a few minutes.
No nightshades? No problem. Strawberry salsa is even better.
If you are avoiding lectins, are on a low-histamine diet, or eating nightshades causes you pain and inflammation, you probably miss the tomato salsa.
Tomatoes belong to the nightshade family of plants, which also includes potatoes, peppers, and eggplants. For some people, eating vegetables from this family can trigger inflammation and autoimmune symptoms. Some simply don’t like tomatoes, while others avoid tomatoes because they are high-histamine.
Whatever category you are in, you will not be disappointed by this delicious strawberry salsa.
Strawberries, like tomatoes, are juicy and sweet and add a pop of color. Plus, they add some extra flavors and sweetness, so I think they are perfect for salsa.

October 18, 2022 at 2:43 pmHi Claudia, I love salsa and eat it often. As I’ve been working on eliminating or reducing lectins, I found this recipe, tried it, and love it! In addition, I made a 2nd batch and added a diced avocado and peeled, de-seeded serrano, and it is now my favorite snack to eat right out of the bowl!
