Description

This creamy orange tahini sauce combines the nutty richness of tahini with fresh orange zest, citrus juice, and a subtle hint of cinnamon. Naturally sweet from the orange, yet balanced with lemon and salt, it can be served as a sauce for falafel and roasted vegetables, thinned into a salad dressing, or kept thicker for dipping and spreading.

Ingredients

  • 1 large organic orange, the zest plus 2 tablespoons juice
  • 6 ounces (170 grams) tahini
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cold water, as needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Add the tahini, lemon juice, orange juice, orange zest, and salt to a bowl. Mix with a fork or small whisk. The mixture will become quite thick at first.
  2. Add the cold water one tablespoon at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, until the tahini becomes smooth and reaches your preferred consistency. You may need approximately 7 to 10 tablespoons of water, depending on the tahini and the consistency you want.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon. Taste and add more orange zest if you would like a stronger orange flavor.

Notes

Use less water for a thick dip or spread and more water for a pourable sauce or salad dressing.

Serve with falafel, roasted vegetables, salads, vegetable bowls, or wraps.

For a slightly sweeter version, add powdered allulose to taste.
