How to Make Tostones (Green Plantain Slices)

Tostones are double-fried green plantain slices. My favorite way to eat them is with guacamole, but you can serve them with any dipping sauce. To make a healthier version, I shallow fry them in extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil.

Ingredients

Ingredients

- Green plantains - Extra virgin olive oil or   avocado oil  - Sea salt

1

Slice the plantain at an angle, about one-inch slices.  Shallow-fry the plantains in a skillet on one side for about 4 minutes.

Slice and fry

2

Flip them and fry again for another 4 minutes on the second side.

Flip and fry

3

Take them out on a cutting board and smash each slice with the bottom of a jar.

Flatten them

4

Put them back in the pan and fry again, on low heat, for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

Fry a second time

5

Take them out on a paper towel. To serve, sprinkle with salt, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and enjoy as a snack or with your favorite dip.

Serve and enjoy
